Biohazard is defined as “A biological agent or condition that constitutes a hazard to humans.” Biohazards include blood and bodily fluids that when exposed due to a traumatic accident, crime or death become infectious agents. Blood and bodily fluids contain pathogens (bacteria and viruses) that can spread disease that could lead to sickness, death or the possibility to have lifelong medical consequences.

*We do not pick up Regulated Medical Waste from medical facilities, medical offices or clinics at this time – only from private homes and trauma scenes.

Biohazard Waste – What is it?

  1. Human or animal blood, feces, urine, vomit, carcass and any other bodily fluid.
  2. Anything saturated or exposed to human or animal blood, feces, urine, vomit, and any other bodily fluid that is still liquid or has begin to become solidified.
  3. Human body fluids also include: Amniotic fluid, saliva, semen, cerebral spinal fluid, pericardial fluid, bile, synovial fluid, and others.
  4. Rodent and Animal Waste is also considered a biohazard: Carcasses, body parts, urine, saliva, feces, and nesting materials.
  5. Used medical syringes and lancets (sharps) are considered personal medical waste, and if not handled and disposed of properly can potentially pose a serious health threat.

How to Dispose of Biohazard Waste

The US Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) alongside The NYS Dept. Of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) provide strict protocol regarding in order to help minimize the health risks associated with the handling and disposal of biohazards. Proper protocol includes labeling, packaging, transporting, and disposing of regulated medial waste.
